BLOOD & PRAYER

Rita Parrot is obsessed with fame, even if it kills her—or someone else. Set against the backdrop of 1950s Hollywood, Blood & Prayer details the filming of the most important film of Rita’s career, and how she survived it. This work, however, is more than another struggling actress story; instead, it is a psychological study into the cost of selfhood and the struggle for female power in a deeply male industry and male world. It grapples with what it means to be seen and heard, who controls that image, and who/what we must leave behind in the journey to become ourselves. Even if that means simultaneously losing the only self we have ever known. Because pain is temporary. Trauma is temporary. An Oscar is forever.
