Do Flowers Grow at Dachau?

Do Flowers Grow at Dachau? is not a story of generational trauma but of generational love.  Centered on two, interconnected romances, the work focuses on female relationships, the experiences of Holocaust-survivors, and the experiences of those lost.  Through the struggle of one modern day Jewish woman for identity, the stories of millions seep through yesterday into today.  Rebekah begins the piece as a woman unsure of her past and present, but she is due to find herself in the voices of the dead who call out to her, before she can even hear them. When literal ghosts, including her own great-grandmother, start to appear in front of her, Rebekah must learn to listen--and remember.  To understand her family, to save her relationship with Maddie, and to know herself, she has to see her own story from half a century before her birth.  Because Flora and Ruthie are not a different story than her and Maddie--they are the beginning to it.  After all, who are we without all the people we have been?  To go forward, first we must go back.
